Bilingual-Boston’s teaching approach combines foreign language immersion with music, puppets, songs, games and most of all fun! Our native speaking teachers are skillful in their presentation of classes, which are typically drawn on the natural experiences children encounter in their day-to-day lives. Our use of songs & music in particular, are critical components of our unique teaching approach and facilitate the language acquisition process. This combination creates an amusing, natural learning environment where children learn enthusiastically.
Our goals in the first few years are to develop conversational skills with a large vocabulary and for children to develop the ability to comprehend and express themselves in simple verbal exchanges. We focus on themes that they can relate to and these includes colors, names, family, food, weather, seasons, animals, feelings, counting, quantity, body parts, locations, activities, travel and holidays.
Bilingual Boston has four developmentally appropriate programs for children ages 1 to 12.
Bilingual Baby Bees 6 – 36 months
The “ Baby Bees”" program is an immersion-based parent & child foreign language class designed for children ages 6-36 months. Children attend half hour classes and parents or caregivers are provided with materials to reinforce learning at home .
Lesson plans are specifically tailored to this age group, using entertaining songs like Old McDonald and puppets to create a fun, natural learning environment. At this age children are developing an ear for both their native language as well as their second language. They are also beginning to express themselves and learning how to make all sorts of sounds
Busy Bees 3-6 years
The “Busy Bees” program is an immersion-based, child-only foreign language class designed for children ages 3 up to 6 years. An extension of Baby Bees introducing simple instruments for older children.
Bumble Bees Ages 5-8 & Jr. Bees Ages 8+
The Bumble Bees and Jr. Bees programs are immersion-based, child-only foreign language classes designed for children ages 5-8 and 8+ years respectively. These classes are arranged according to the fluency of the student and either introduce or develop further the skills of the student.
Songs, puppets, games and fun form the foundation of our teaching methodology. Although these children are more mature they still love our “edutaining” approach to learning.
Our lesson plans are specifically tailored to these age groups, emphasizing practical real life concepts. Research has shown, and our experience has reinforced, that children are much more likely to communicate in the target language if the communication has a purpose and is relatable, so we create thematic classes such as Summer Vacation, Dinner at Grandma’s, Going Shopping and Going to the Farm that are comprehensible to the child.
